The beta program for Starlink has started quite a while ago in the US, only in select regions. Now it’s also in Canada, and it continues to go into more and more locations as well. As this program expands, Starlink will start accepting $99 preorders for its internet service. However, the thing to consider here is that the preorders can be fully refunded. The fine print also says that even if you preorder, that won’t guarantee you any access to the service, which is something to take into consideration here.

When will the Starlink service be available?

If you visit the Starlink website and choose your area, it will show you an estimative date. Yes, they don’t have a date set in stone, and it usually varies from one region to the other. In some spaces it says it will be available in 2021, others estimate 2022. They also state that orders may take 6 months or more to fulfill, based on where you live.

It’s important to note that Starlink has already started the beta in October and the service is $99, and you also have to get a $499 kit, which doesn’t include shipping. Yet the fact that there are now general preorders means that at least in select places, the service is ready to go out of beta. We are still in the beginning of the year, so a lot of things can change and modify in a very distinct way.

The service itself is very ambitious, and they are working hard to make this a reality. It’s an interesting and amazing idea in its own right, not to mention it does come up with the ability to access the internet from pretty much anywhere you want, which is a huge benefit.

Speeds will only get better very quickly

We need to realize the fact that speeds are constantly improving the more satellites are launched by Starlink. Right now there are well over 1000 satellites for the service in the orbit, and they are trying to launch around 4400 satellites until 2024. Then eventually the number will be close to 10000 or more in 2030. We expect Starlink to achieve this in the long run, but it will surely take a lot of time and effort for that to happen.

In the end, it’s safe to say that Starlink will continue to evolve and the fact that they are taking preorders is a huge deal. But as we saw, these preorders do come with a potential refund right away, so nothing is for sure. They are targeting 2021 or 2022 as a start of the global or at least regional rollout. It will surely take a while until every location in the world will be supported, but for the time being it does work super nicely, and the value itself is nothing short of staggering. It just goes to show the amazing benefits you can get from Starlink as a user. So if you are interested in the service, this is one of the best time to enroll on it!
